Kulika Scholarships

We have had a long-standing commitment to education through targeted scholarship programs that have positively impacted over 2,000 individuals. These initiatives provide specialized training both in Uganda and the UK, equipping beneficiaries with the skills and knowledge needed to improve their livelihoods. In addition, our community development programs train farmers in sustainable organic agriculture, enabling self-sufficiency and long-term community transformation. These projects are dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable members of society through quality education and practical training.

The Chevening Scholarship Scheme
(1998 – 2008)

Established in 1998, this prestigious scholarship supported Ugandan students studying at the University of Leeds. It was a joint initiative between Kulika, the University of Leeds, and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), with each partner covering one-third of the overall cost. By the 2007/08 academic year, the total sponsorship cost per student amounted to £22,000, covering tuition, a monthly stipend, arrival allowance, and return flights. Each year, five beneficiaries were selected based on a formal scholarship selection process. The program provided master’s degree training in fields essential for Uganda’s development, such as:Transport Planning, Construction Management and Engineering, Business Administration and Financial Studies, Development Studies and Communications. We actively monitored scholars’ progress in partnership with the University of Leeds and maintained connections with graduates upon their return to Uganda. The program supported 30 Ugandan scholars until its conclusion in 2008, after which Kulika transitioned to supporting degree programs within Uganda.

On completion of the Msc in Development management, my profile got elevated and I took on the language of development in almost all discussions that I have. I have joined discussion forums where I articulate my argument in a professional and intriguing manner. I give talks at several occasions and leave members dazzled by my speech. Very recently, I concluded a training where I was hired as a consultant facilitator in the participatory evaluation process where I left all participants elated and inviting me to do the same training in their individual organizations. I am currently the executive director of the Christian Development Association of Uganda (CDAU). Our website is www.cdauganda.org and there, one can find the work that I have put into developing the organization. The income that now comes my way through consultancies from individuals and organizations has gone up as I proudly know more and do more.
